Our Leader

As Director of City Tax Assessment for Providence, Rhode Island, John L.J. Gelati has championed property tax reform, built public trust, and played a key role in the city’s redevelopment. Since taking office in 2000, he was instrumental in transforming Providence for more than a decade, contributing to revitalizing areas like Waterplace Park through Tax Stabilization Treaties. John has also served on significant policy groups, appointed by Governor Cacieri to the Governor’s Working Tax Policy Group and by Mayor Cicilline to the Tax Policy Working Group and Urban Land Reform Advisory Group, where he co-chaired impactful initiatives.

A Broader Impact

As a contract assessor for Newport, Rhode Island, John L.J. Gelati implemented a revaluation, archived historical property records and maps, and advised the Aquidneck Island Consolidated Taxing District Committee. In Hamden, Connecticut, he reorganized the Assessor’s Office, facilitated public meetings, and recently oversaw property revaluation projects in East Haven and Ridgefield.

In addition to his public service, our founder is the proprietor and lead consultant at Piedmont Realty and Tax Advisors, LLC, offering real estate brokerage, investment analysis, and property tax advising in Connecticut and Rhode Island. He also leads our company, where he develops property tax treaties and negotiates tax reforms. As the Founder and Executive Director, he promotes property tax policy reform through multimedia presentations, blog articles, and interviews with policymakers, advocating for equitable property tax systems.
